i-Touch PDF Reader

Finding an application in Apple i-Store is a piece of Cake.
Finding a cheap application in Apple i-Store is a bit harder.
Finding a cheap application doing a moderately useful thing in Apple i-Store is even harder.
Finding a cheap application doing an extremely useful thing in Apple i-Store is the hardest.

Good Reader by Good.iWare inc is one such softwares belonging to the hardest category which has been sitting pretty on my Apple iPod touch(c) for the past 5 months.
The software is a PDF/Document reader that runs on an Apple iPOD. Its simple, its easy to use and its fast. All the qualities that u need on a computer that doesn't contain most liberties of a desktop/laptop PC.
  • Easy to Use : The interface is simple and has minimalistic buttons. The provision to organize the files as folders is thoughtful. Copy text from any PDF file to clip-board by simple select.
  • File Transfer : Files can be obtained from multiple formats. A quick upload using a Wi-Fi connection, download from the web sites, download from Google Docs. I'd say enough ways to transfer files on a device with limitations
  • Reading Comfort : A very critical feature where many other reader softwares fail. One really big issue is the Font size. These guys have come up with an experimental new feature which parses the content (just like many desktop readers do) and converts into a txt file. By this way, the font size can be increased to suit reader's comfort.
  • Speed and File Size : The speed at which the software turns pages is very impressive. Unlike some other readers which load the whole PDF into Run time Memory (This puts a limit on File Size and Speed), the GoodReader lets the majority of the file remain on the flash memory by loading only the content which is being requested. By doing this, the software is quick and at the same time capable of loading really large files (Claims to support upto 1GB :-O )
  • Price : When I purchased this software, it costed USD 0.99. Its a really good price to pay for this wonderful tool.
So go ahead, Start using this tool, its worth it. Believe me, i have been using my iPOD Touch as a book when i travel. Who needs an Amazon Kindle when we can do the same in an iPOD.

Dental Services - ALV Jayas

Dental Issues can be a real pain, if u know what i mean. I had a similar experience a month back. So i went to this place called ALV Jayas Dental Care in Valasaravakkam, Chennai. The place looked very minimalistic and appealing aesthetically. The doctors were pretty young and there were a lot of student interns. Oh man!! Am i at the right place? What will they do with my teeth.
Anyways, as the procedures began I became a little more comfortable. The treatment was professional and quick. There waiting queues were small and the instruments were state of the art. All these added up to a convincing experience. And, without much pain or regret, the "Root-Canal" process was over and my cavity started healing.
But above all these, the most satisfying experience was when i underwent a minor surgical procedure named "Episectomy". The surgeon slits my gums a small amount to lift it and cut out the decayed portion of bone which is beneath the teeth. What i really was able to appreciate was the speed and confidence the surgeon showed during the operation. There was never a step backward, and the whole procedure hardly took place 15 mins.
That day, i realized why the medical professionals charge so damn high. Its because of their expertise in their field.
After a month of regular trips to the clinic, it all ended with the placement of a custom designed ceramic coated metallic cap on the teeth.
Monies : Fees, some might say a bit on the high end but I'd say was quite nominal.
Rs.3000 (for root canal and Episectomy) and Rs.3000(for Crown preparation and my custom made metal+ceramic cap)
